Contrary to unfounded speculations, the candidature of Messrs Alexander B. Cummings and Jeremiah C. Solunteh of the Alternative National Congress, has today, July 6, 2017 been fully certified by the National Elections Commission of Liberia. This move will now lend full legitimacy to both men to carry on with their political ambitions and campaign efforts.
It can be noted, that Mr. Cummings was earlier speculated by some that his presidential ambitions may not come to pass, owing to the recently enacted Code of Conduct and Residency Clause.
Accordingly, Mr. Cummings who is deemed by some as a relatively newcomer to Liberian politics, was a long time resident of the United States where he had worked for Coca Cola, Cargill, Pillsbury, and others. In the last couple of years, Mr. Cummings was appointed on the Board of the Booker Washing Institute as Eminent Person, to help transform that institution.
For his part, Ambassador Jeremiah Solunteh served as Liberia's Ambassador to the United States, Canada, and Mexico up to late last year, 2016. Some held that, like Cummings, he had not resigned within the time stipulated in the Code of Conduct, for those intended to seek elected offices.
It can be recalled, that the Supreme Court of Liberia ruled on a number of these controversial issues. However, in her annual address last year, Madam Sirleaf also ensured Liberians, that no Liberian will be prevented from pursuing his or her political ambitions under her watch.
gracing the news, both Cummings and Solunteh have assured partisans and other well wishers of the ANC, that its now time to return to work in getting the work done.
